IRON SHORE

Man the machine-gun nest and hold the shoreline. Sweep your fire across the landing waves, watch your barrel heat, and shoot down the supply chutes before they drift away.

Tip: the barrel overheats if you never let go β€” fire in short bursts and it stays ice cold.

How to play

Iron Shore is a 3D beach-defense shooter: you're the last gunner in a sandbagged machine-gun nest, and every wave lands more soldiers on your shore. They're slow when they hit the sand and terrifying when they're ten feet away β€” pick your targets far out and never stop scanning the waterline.

  • Phone / tablet: touch and drag anywhere on the battlefield β€” the gun follows your finger and fires while you're touching. Prefer buttons? An arrow pad with a FIRE button sits just below the play field, so your thumbs never cover the action.
  • Desktop: aim with the mouse and hold the left button to fire β€” or use the arrow keys to aim and hold Space to fire. Press P to pause.
  • Watch the heat bar. Long bursts jam the gun for two and a half seconds β€” which is exactly how long a sprinting soldier needs to reach your sandbags.

Know the invasion

  • Riflemen β€” fast, numerous, one clean hit drops them. They zig-zag as they close in.
  • Heavies β€” armored giants that soak up a whole burst. Slow, but if one reaches the wire your trench melts.
  • Paratroopers β€” from wave 3 the sky joins the fight. Shoot them out of the air while they hang under the canopy, or meet them on the ground.
  • Landing craft β€” each new wave motors out of the fog and drops its ramp. The horn means thirty seconds of hell.

Supply drops

Every so often a supply chute drifts across the beach. Shoot the crate before it lands and you get one of three field upgrades:

  • COOLANT β€” instantly dumps all barrel heat and slows heating for eight seconds.
  • RAPID FIRE β€” nearly doubles your rate of fire for eight seconds.
  • REPAIRS β€” the engineers patch your trench back up.

Scoring

Riflemen are worth 10, paratroopers 15 (25 if you get them mid-air), heavies 40, and every wave you survive pays a clearance bonus that keeps growing. Your best score is saved on your device (nowhere else β€” see our privacy policy), so you always have a number to beat.

About this game

Iron Shore is the newest cabinet in our arcade β€” and our first fully 3D one. The beach, the sea fog, the battleship on the horizon and every soldier are rendered in real time with WebGL via the open-source Three.js library; the models, the animation, the particles and even the gunfire sounds are still generated in our own hand-written code. No downloads, no accounts, no tracking scripts.

We're Webmaster & More, a small web studio in Los Angeles. The arcade is our playground and our portfolio: if a three-person team can ship fast, polished software for fun, imagine what we ship for clients. Read the build notes on the dev log.
